At Save-A-Life Jacket Program, our mission is to promote safety and adventure education by providing loaner life jackets at frequently floated sections of the Colorado River, near Grand Junction. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to lead an active and healthy lifestyle, and we are committed to making that a reality for our community.
There are eight kiosks from Palisade to Fruita at all of the designated boat launches, which are stocked with life jackets of varying sizes from roughly April-September to help ensure people recreating on the "town float" have the appropriate safety equipment.
The American Whitewater organization has been tracking river accidents dating back to 1924 in the United States.
Not wearing a life jacket accounted for 13% of all tracked fatalities.
